There is always a milk crate somewhere.

Here are some of their stories.

Crateless:
I don’t currently have possession or have ever had possession of a milk crate. Occasionally I used to see them in the cool room at work. I wonder what my life would be like with a milk crate... it would probably be totally different... endless possibilities... and all this time I have been without. You’ve made me see how much better my life would be, if only I had a milk crate. Fisherman's Friend:
A pefect way to carry around your fishing gear and then when you arrive at your destination it doubles as a nice seat. If you're then lucky to catch a fish that you want to keep then once again the humble milk crate comes to the fore acting as an impenetrable confine keeping your fish safe from the water. Back to top
Camper's Companion:
A versatile buddy. Place a bin liner and add some ice for a makeshift Esky. Place a hotplate on it and use it as a BBQ stand. Use it to carry camping gear. Or even cut a hole in the bottom of it, turn upside down and you have a makeshift toilet seat. Back to top
Wine Rack:
Stack crates on there sides and use directly to store wine bottles. Go a little more upmarket and insert some diagonal supports for easy access to bottles. Go all out and colour code the wine. Red crates for red wine and perhaps blue crates for white wine. Back to top
Bedroom Basics:
Use as a bedside table to store your book and alarm clock. Add some elegance to it by placing a tea towel on top. Construct a bed base and place you mattress on top or even use as a replacement bed leg if the need arises. Back to top

Milk crate use #503: Arcade machine seat.
I spent many years wandering up to the corner store while growing up to part with 40 cents of my pocket money to play the arcade games on offer. The ultimate luxury while playing these games was the ability to sit down. The perfect seat was 2 milk crates stacked on top of one another. Comfort was varied and the chequered design that emerged from sitting on the crates once you finished playing just added to the enriching experience. Back to top
The milk crate house.
While studying and money is scarce a milk crate can satisfy most of your furnishing needs. Use them to build a lounge suite, a coffee table, a bookcase and satisfy your every storage need. You are only limited by your imagination. Also mix up the different colours on offer or segregate them into different rooms to create your own unique themes throughout your unit or house. Back to top
One thing that has become clearly evident whilst working on my book is that everyone seems to have either a story that involves a milk crate or an interesting milk crate sighting. Below is a selection of milk crate stories, sightings and uses. If you have one you would like to share then contact me.
Milk crate car seat:
Riding in a van with no back seats and no view. Clearly this scenario was sub-optimal. In a moment of need what do you look to? A milk crate of course. A single milk crate turned upside down. Throw a hessian bag or some plastic bags on top and all of a sudden you have a car seat in the back of your van. It is comfortable and even allows you to enjoy the view on your journey. Back to top
